Allagash

The brewery was founded in 1995 by Rob Tod in Portland, Maine. He observed that while both German and British style beers were available throughout the United States, Belgian-style beers were difficult to find. He established a small, 15-barrel brewery, and began brewing a beer modeled after a Belgian Wit beer, named Allagash White.[4] The beer gets its flavor from the use of wheat in place of barley, as well as the addition of Curaçao orange peel, coriander, and other spices.[5]

All of the beers Allagash produces are bottle conditioned. The technique calls for two fermentations, the first in the fermenting tanks and the second in the bottle itself (a process known as the methode champenoise). A coolship is used to cool the wort for some of the beers.[6] Allagash was one of the first breweries in the US to build a traditional coolship for spontaneous fermentation by wild yeasts.[3]

Before the beer is bottled, a small amount of yeast and sugar is added and a second fermentation occurs. It is this second fermentation which produces a notable increase in carbonation, a softer feel and remarkable complexity. This method of bottle conditioning leaves a small amount of yeast in the bottle.

Closing Date: 17th April. Depending on order levels we may order some additional stocks to ensure we have a full container, this stock will go on sale when the stock arrives but there is no guarantee for any specific products at this time so we strongly advise pre-ordering to avoid disappointment.

We highly recommend pre-ordering where possible as many of the most popular breweries will sell out before we close the pre-order as we have limited availability on all lines

Once we have closed the pre-order we will confirm our allocations with the breweries and our shipping partner, this will give us an expected eta.

We will keep you updated with a more specific delivery week as we get closer to the arrival date

Most items on this pre-order have not yet been brewed to ensure they are as fresh as possible when we receive them so delays are possible & some items may end up missing the shipment window, we will let you know if this happens

Once we have given you an expected delivery week you are free to place any additional orders through the website to be delivered alongside your pre-order. If any of your orders do not meet the minimum for free shipping but your total order will, please contact the office and they will make sure you are not overcharged.

If you are hoping to top up your order with standard stock, you can place your order and closer to the time of delivery. Some of our imported brands come in returnable plastic crates and implement a deposit system for which the breweries use to encourage recycling of their bottles as we send them back to be cleaned and reused.

We apply the same fixed rate of £4 per crate (£2.50 crate & £1.50 bottles) and you will be able to see on the product as you click into it whether it carries a case deposit. It will also show in the checkout.

If you are unable to return the bottles then please factor the £1.50 into your selling price and just return the plastic crates for a part return on your deposit. However, if you are returning, this will be marked down by our drivers when they are returned as full or empty crates and you will receive a credit for them on their return.
