The Strawberry Thief - Bristol's food and drink hotspot!
September 29, 2023A taste of Brussels in the heart of Bristol! The Strawberry Thief is tucked away behind the 14th century-built city wall – where it adds to the great selection of Bristol food and drink hot spots!
Mike Harris, alongside his General Manager Tim Watkins run the show - building this business into an award-winning beer bar and kitchen. Mike leads the charge with his fantastic hospitality skills – having learnt the tricks of the trade at his parents Cornish hotel.
Their name comes from the pattern created by William Morris in 1883 and is one of his most iconic and enduring patterns. It features a repeating motif of thrushes swooping down to steal strawberries from a plant and this pattern is found throughout the venue. You can see this on the wallpaper in the picture below.
The food is second to none, with a well thought out European inspired menu offering anything from Belgian Stoofvlees to Beeramisu! In true style, it manages to incorporate Belgian beer with locally made salami, created especially for them, using Zot Dubbel & walnut and another with Kriek Boon & star anise.
Although they specialise in Belgian beer (stocking around 70 different brands a week) they also add to their collection by stocking a few local craft beers too, proudly being one of the first customers of none other than Lost & Grounded’s Keller Pills. The vast offering doesn’t stop there with a selection German lagers.
They are so committed to bringing the Belgian feel to the people of Bristol they have visited Bruges and Brussels to ensure the feeling isn't a copycat but a replication of a great Belgian bar.
This year Strawberry Thief celebrated their 7th birthday, hosting friends and industry, offering evenings of Belgian beer and food tasting events! We even helped them celebrate back in April with an event organised with Westmalle. The brewery joined the team at The Strawberry Thief to create a tasting event comprising 3 courses and the rare chance to sample Westmalle Abbey Cheese without visiting the monastery.
If you happen to be in the hustle and bustle of Bristol, take yourself to The Strawberry Thief and have a hint of Belgium in the centre of Bristol’s city!
